The Story behind : Road To Heaven,Kutch

A story behind how the name"Road To Heaven" came in!

The very next morning, myself and a very good friend of mine (Ankit Jethi) had to leave early so we departed and other stayed for some more exploration.

Once everyone reached back to Bhuj, Parth decided to give a name to that place on Google Map and the name was as all of know the place by "Road To Heaven".

Since we had drone and a camera, we were able to take some good shots at the time of Sunset. Parth & Ankit are running an Instagram Page with name "Bhujbloggers" we posted the photos & videos from that trip and it went viral. Crazy viral. Many news channles have contacted us and covered how it found. And we always say,

The path was there already, it was getting ready for transportation and accessibility for locals anywhich ways, we are not saying that the place exists because of us, but we can surely claim that we have played a role in getting it famous at the initial stage.

Many of you have heard of Road To Heaven in Kutch recently through different social media platforms But do you know how that place named as "Road To Heaven"?

Let me try to take you on that journey virtually...

It was August 2021 when we heard that there's an under construction road which connects Khavda to Dholavira directly. So we a group of some 7-8 adventure seekers thought of to explore that patch before it gets fully constructed and that's how the plan was made.

Around 3 PM on 7th August 2021 we all started our ride carrying cameras, tripods, tents and all the camping equipments as we planned of cooking and camping at Dholavira, it was no moon night and we were expecting to see milkyway. (We personally prefer to visit White Rann on No Moon nights.)

Once we crossed the Khavda village the road became narrow leading to village Kunaria, After riding for some 100 km the concrete road ended,  and it started to fascinate us because no-one other than local villagers has been on that road before. We all felt happy like kid who gets the new toy; the path was much scenic and felt like we are in a dream, we saw the road (road to heaven), it was full of stones and bad patches, but the view. Oh the view was crazy!!!!

The serene beauty of seeing vast white land with pure reflection on the right side and a flat land of redness on the other side was sort of experience we still cherish and talk about.

We saw one of the most beautiful sunset of our lives on that day, and found a place for the camping. The weather was windy but sky was clean. We cook food for ourselves and experienced some of the best moments.

Beyond the highway

Swerve past the crowded tourist stalls. Real Kutchi dabeli is found in the quiet lanes of Bhuj, slow-cooked with fresh pomegranates and roasted peanuts over charcoal embers.

Weaving the desert rhythm

The nomadic Rabari families have mapped their history in wool for generations. Every geometric motif tells a story of water, cattle, and shifting desert horizons.

Desert Readiness

High-contrast packing essentials

Kutch swings from scorching daytime sun to freezing midnight winds. Prepare for the rapid temperature shifts with these curated essentials.

Footwear

Breathable linen layers

Heavy wool blankets

Sturdy trail boots

Pack loose, light-colored cottons and linens to block the intense midday glare while keeping cool during village walks.

The salt desert drops to near-freezing after twilight. A heavy wool shawl or compact down jacket is essential for stargazing.

The salt crust can be sharp and uneven. Leave the sandals behind; opt for broken-in boots with thick soles for desert walking.
